Retirement Planning Services was started by Braam van der Mescht in 1979 . Braam started his career in the financial services industry in 1970 when he joined Sanlam as a Financial Advisor. During his training he underwent the most specialised training in financial analysis, financial and estate planning, the planning of wills and other legal contracts, all to assist clients in a wide field of personal financial planning. In 1976 he became a financial broker and later director of a financial planning services company in the Sage and Nedcor groups.

Since the inception of Retirement Planning Services in 1979 the company was developed to become one of the most well known independent financial advisory services in the Western Cape.

He jealously guards his independence from financial product providers, however he maintains firm alliances with asset managers, attorneys and accountants to provide a wide variety of services to clients.
